Saturn is back in Pisces for the eclipses
In modern astrology, Saturn gets a bad rap as a restricting taskmaster—but it was originally the most mystical planet of all.
In modern astrology, Saturn gets kind of a bad rap—delay, limitation, karma. In the positive you can think of this as a teacher of discipline and developer of character. But in the ancient system, Saturn was the edge of the Universe. It contained the significations now given to Neptune and Pluto—death but also transcendence. It sat at the limits between the realm of humans and the realm of the gods.
Saturn just moved back into Pisces for its final retrograde. Pisces is the last sign of the Zodiac, the final integration of awareness before the cycle starts over with firey and reckless Aries, who is just doing things to see what happens—learning from experience and full of energy to do it.
I woke up this morning and was in bed reading Substack Notes as I often am before I feel like getting up. Someone asked, "Do you believe the universe cares about you? Or is it utterly indifferent to your existence?".
Amidst a lot of interesting replies, mine was, "God/Spirit is like the Sun, it shines on everything indiscriminately. It shines on a beautiful lake and it also shines on sewage treatment plants and killing fields. The nature of God is the love of everything unconditionally. So it is care in the sense of love, which includes curiosity and interest and goodwill, but it is not the human kind of care where we pick and choose what we love. I had a visceral experience of this once, it was like being seen in every cell of my body and nook and cranny of my being with complete acceptance and interest and zero agenda."
And then I thought, "Wow, Saturn in Pisces". 🔦
Pisces is the final moment of light rising out of the darkness, the final moments of winter which is characterized by darkness being dominant and light increasing. All of the original significations of the signs were based on this cycle of light and dark in the Northern hemisphere where it was developed.
Pisces deals with the reconciliation of spirit and matter. It is the sign of sinners and saints, faith and redemption. We are in Virgo season right now—the polarity of Pisces, which deals with the nitty gritty details of life. We will have a lunar eclipse in these signs on Sunday Sep 7. So is a good week to ponder your existence and witness the darkness we all live in, with love—bringing light to it.
